Apple has filed a lawsuit against a small Russian manufacturer of dried fruits and vegetables. The corporation did not like the apple symbol in the letter “O” of the company logo.
This may seem absurd, but this is a long-standing strategy of Apple – the company wants the image of an apple in any form to be associated with it and has made several attempts to register such marks. However, naturally, she was refused, since this is a commonly used sign.
After the failure, Apple simply began to sue any companies with an apple in their logo. Even those where there is no chance of winning (for example, the Swiss Farmers Association, which has had this logo for more than a century). The calculation is simple: Apple has a lot of money. This is the richest corporation in the world. Therefore, she can easily afford any legal expenses. And for many of the companies she is suing, this is a serious blow to the budget. Moreover, it will take years to spend. Therefore, it is cheaper to change the logo or not put an apple on it at all.
This is the privatization of a symbol to which the company does not and cannot have any legal rights, through abuse of the judicial system.
