A discovery by Nikola Tesla will be used in combat zones

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is preparing to deploy a next-generation wireless power transmission and distribution system to transmit power over long distances.

US company PowerLight Technologies is collaborating with DARPA as part of its innovative Persistent Optical Wireless Energy Relay (POWER) program.

The POWER program aims to create a dynamic wireless power network capable of using beam technology to deliver power to militants at the speed of light, providing a multi-beam power network that can deliver wireless power using lasers to multiple domains.

PowerLight’s innovative technology converts kilowatts of electrical power from virtually any source into powerful, targeted beams of light that can be safely and discreetly directed at a receiver designed to convert the received light back into usable power.

Providing power to combat zones, military bases or large ships was one of PowerLight’s main goals.

Space applications of PowerLight include transmitting power to spacecraft, space observatories, and even rovers on the lunar surface.
