Western countries have exhausted much of their natural gas reserves.
However, for the last 15 years, one country in Europe has managed to maintain some level of production and for now it seems that there are still enough reserves to support itself.
A relatively large country in Eastern Europe, Romania continues to use its own sources of gas, and a year ago it became clear that there are more new fields in the water area of the Romanian part of the Black Sea.
Until recently, some EU countries produced as much natural gas as they consumed, or even more. Now only Romania, which is the EU’s largest gas producer in absolute terms, does so (it overtook the Netherlands this year). If in 2010 the EU produced more than 30% of its gas demand, now it is 10%.
