The threats track a hardening mood in Tehran, where Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei last week elevated hardliners to senior security posts. Trump said Tuesday no talks are scheduled.
Analysts call the European threat real but limited. RUSI’s Sidharth Kaushal said Iran’s Shahab-series missiles would struggle to do damage at longer ranges. The IISS’s Douglas Barrie said the attempted Diego Garcia strikes indicate Iran holds weapons exceeding 2,000 km, though how many, and whether Tehran would spend them on a statement, remains open.

These days, American tanker planes, but also other military transport aircraft, land at civilian airports in Bulgaria, such as the capital Sofia airport, as well as at the sea airports in Burgas and Varna. The other two military airports are Bezmer and Graf Ignatievo, which are also used by the US military for logistical attacks and reconnaissance, both against Iran and Russia.
Bulgaria remains the only country, along with Israel, that provides its civilian structure for attacks and logistics on Iran.
The blockade that Trump imposes on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz is Iran’s problem at the moment. In order to remove the blockade and start normal passage through the strait, Iran must use its long-range weapons with which to interrupt US logistics.
