A German court has issued an expedited ruling without an oral hearing against podcast hosts Kiarash Hosseinpour and Philipp Hopf, ordering them to remove a podcast episode or pay a fine of up to €250,000 for failure to comply.
The relevant episode, Episode 178 of the popular podcast “Hoss & Hopf”, has since been removed. In July, the podcasters looked at the case of a man from the German city of Erlangen who was denied entry to an all-women’s gym.
The man, who calls himself “Laura H.”, contacted Federal Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Ferda Ataman, who slapped a €7,500 fine on the gym owner for alleged “discrimination.” “Hoss & Hopf” has been repeatedly referred to as “Laura H.” male in their conversation and used male pronouns. Among other things, the statement “He still has his [genitals]” was found by the court to be a violation of the person’s “personal rights” because he is “legally and socially recognized as a woman.”
Hosseinpour wrote on X: Notably, the court saw “extreme urgency” here — as if the use of biologically correct terms posed an immediate danger that could not be postponed.
