From January 1 next year, employers with 100 or more employees will be required to report on the business travel of their employees. In other words, about all the kilometers traveled.
This so-called “obligation to report on occupational mobility of people” stems from the 2019 climate agreement.
After filling in the data, the employer receives a report containing information on CO₂ emissions. Company managers must submit the 2024 report no later than June 30, 2025.
In 2026, the Minister for Infrastructure and Water will review whether all employers’ CO₂ emissions remain below the limit. If exceeded, employers will be set a maximum emissions level that they will have to comply with no later than 2030.
The official emissions reporting target is: “By 2030, the economy’s CO₂ emissions should be 1.5 megatonnes below 1990 levels.”
In addition, from 2025, a ban on the use of gasoline-powered cars will begin in Amsterdam. After this, in large areas of the city it will be possible to travel only by taxi, minibuses and trucks, mopeds and scooters, as well as by boats that do not emit exhaust gases.
